What will make me return to Windows Mobile?

Carrying on the familiar thread of what I miss and what I don’t miss, I thought I’d extend this to what will make me return to Windows Mobile?

I think the main things that would have to be implemented by Microsoft would be

  • A kick ass application store, almost on a kin to Apple
  • The ability to still install applications manually outside of the application store
  • The ability to still run multi-tasking apps
  • To beef up Exchange, Gmail, POP3, IMAP support to make it more faster and intuitive
  • Lots of fat finger buttons everywhere, no small OK buttons or scroll bars
  • Ability for the OS to flow and not stutter or perform badly, Apple currently provide a good performance out of box
  • Not slow down the device the more apps and games you install, again Apple have made this pretty good
  • Ability to fix Bluetooth A2DP (okay this might be a HTC problem but having Bluetooth disconnect from my car kit because the processor is idling too high is unacceptable. There is such a thing known as time slicing…!
  • Providing Safari or Opera Mobile out of box (currently Microsoft provide Opera)
  • Built in applications to support iTunes and Podcasts as well as You Tube, Flickr, WordPress/Blogging
  • Hmmm, okay that is a bit of a long list, and true Apple don’t provide all of the above, but other third party app providers have been very frequent at writing apps to support all of the above. If Microsoft could jump start the community with their App Store to get as many apps installed on devices then this would be a good start. However, it must be an easy to install and easy to uninstall feature. No having to install or uninstall manually, or having to delete folders because the application has left something behind on the device…!
