The Windows MarketPlace is now open for business for Windows Mobile 6.5 phones, with plans to make it accessible to Windows Mobile 6.0 and Windows Mobile 6.1 phones by the end of the year.
The Windows Market Place is supposed to be similar to the Apple iTunes Store in as it gives you a central repository or online store to go and download or purchase applications from directly on the Windows Mobile device rather than having to download them on your PC manually and then having to sync them to the device. Although the latter has always been the way that Windows Mobile users have received their applications in the past, it requires some knowledge of both Windows on the PC and Windows Mobile on the device. This is something most non-technical savvy users do not have. This is where Apple have really made the whole process a lot more easier with the iPhone.
The screens below show the Windows Market Place in operation for Windows Mobile 6.5 devices.

I would have hoped that Microsoft would have made the Windows Market Place a little more inviting than currently is shown in the above images.
It has the look of a windows application, with a scroll bar. Looks very old style windows to me.

Let’s hope the whole install/uninstall process is better than Apple’s for the iPhone otherwise the Windows Market Place isn’t going to take off that well.
