iPhone 3GS hanging in iPod on OS 3.1.2

I had my first problem with OS 3.1.2 update. Using it for about a week without power cycling the phone, I was listening to some iPod music and everything was fine, I browsed the iTunes store on the iPhone and then purchased two songs (not complete albums). Once the first song had downloaded, I started to play it. Then I played an older song I had. Both worked fine. Then once the second song had downloaded I tried to play it and noticed I wasn’t getting any audio. At this point I checked the play marker and it said 00:00. At this point I tried playing the other previous song that I purchased and played okay, now this was doing the same.

Uh-oh, this didn’t look good…! I then tried to go back to the older song I played, now this time it showed 00:00, but no matter what I did on-screen or even pressing the HOME button, the device was frozen. Nothing would respond. This wasn’t looking good. The only thing I could do to recover it was to hold the power button down, slide the red bar to Power Off, then power back on the iPhone. This then resolved the problem.

I’m not too sure what caused it to bombuzal in the way it did, but this was a really bad crash. I hadn’t had any previous crashes on earlier OS versions on my 3GS so this was my first experience of this. Kinda reminded me of what I used to experience a lot on Windows Mobile!
