The stats are in for the launch of the Droid, and for the weekend launch Verizon sold 100,000 Droids. Although this sounds like a staggering amount if you look back at Apple when they launched the 3G and 3GS respectively Apple made claims that they had sold more than a 1,000,000 iPhones during their launch weekends. Although the iPhones were launched across multiple countries where as the Droid was only released in the USA.

Likewise with the O2 exclusivity lifted in the UK, Orange sold 30,000 iPhone 3GS’s in their launch day which again is a staggering amount bearing in mind the iPhone has already been available for sale for several years now on the O2 UK network.
So if you look at these figures and say Orange probably sold 60,000 units in 2 days, and Droid sold 100,000 units in the same time frame, you might be fooled into thinking that the Droid is selling better. However, when you take into account that if Orange were selling the iPhone in the UK for the first time without any other operator then it would have way outsold the Droid.
