Amazon release the IMDb app for the iPhone and iPod Touch

The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) from Amazon.com, has just released a free iPhone app (currently only available in the US) that puts the power of the huge repository of movie facts, fables, and trivia into the palm of your hand.

I use IMDb somewhat regularly and this looks like it’s a really good app. It does ask you to use use your currently location to display show times and movies for local theaters in the US (probably hence why it’s not available in the UK or Europe iTunes stores yet).

The first page of the app displays three major areas: Movies, TV, and People. There’s also an Application area which is used to display information about the App. Films are divided into Showtimes, Coming Soon, US Box Office Results, MOVIEmeter, and the Top 250 Movies.

If you love movies and TV, or searching trivia about roles, actors, and directors, then you could probably spend a lot of time with IMDb. The iPhone app allows you to access all of the IMDb without having to go to a PC and use it direct on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

I really wish Amazon would wake up to the international market. They released a couple of months ago their Kindle app for the iPhone, even though they’re now shipping International Kindles and you can purchase these now in Europe, there’s still no way to get the app unless you have a US iTunes account. This seems to be the way Amazon is going as the IMDb app is only currently available in the US too :(
