25gb free SkyDrive in the cloud and have a drive letter in Explorer

“Not a lot of people know that” – Michael Caine once said.  Well it’s true.  SkyDrive from Microsoft is a free online cloud (Internet) service where you can upload, store, retrieve images and files and they give you a whopping 25gb free.  That’s like half of what most laptops have as their hard drive.

This is not new, but what is new is an app called for Windows called SkyDrive Explorer which provides you the 25gb drive as a virtual drive letter in Windows Explorer and allows you to drag and drop files into the cloud and retrieve them effortlessly.

I think it should go without saying but you will need a broadband speed network to use SkyDrive otherwise it will be pretty slow. Anything from 2mbps upwards should be okay.

  1. awesome find! Just installed on my NC10 netbook, works brilliantly! wonder why Microsoft haven’t made this app themselves?

    • It’s a really great app, great to have it as a drive in Explorer, there is a 50mb limit per file though.
