Grand Theft Auto – Chinatown Wars review for #iPhone

Grand Theft Auto is a game that I must say, well, I’m addicted to. It started on the PS3, then moved to a more portable Nintendo DSi with Chinatown Wars, and now it’s on the iPhone. So after giving up my DSi at Christmas time to my nephew that frankly will get more use out of it than me as I’m now playing most of my games on the iPhone now, and after a long haul of telling myself that I wouldn’t re-purchase it, I, well, er, slapped down the £5.99 for the game.

If you’ve played GTA Chinatown Wars on the Nintendo DSi then the game (and gameplay) is identical to what you’re accustomed to. If you haven’t played GTA Chinatown Wars before but have played some of the other GTA games, then you’ll still like this game.

It takes you back to more of the GTA 1 and GTA 2 days with more overhead 2D / birdseye view. You can ge tin and out of cars (or ahem…steal them), pick up a few guns along the way and shoot the crap out of any man, woman or car that you see. There’s no violence in this game, it’s just pure unadulterated addiction!

GTA Chinatown Wars let’s you choose from five radio stations with 100+ minutes of in-game music, or simply listen to your own music library in-game by using iTunes to create a playlist called “GTA” and syncing your iPhone/iPod Touch. To listen to your custom playlist, simply launch Chinatown Wars and select the Independence FM radio station.

There’s an Intuitive touch screen interface with two custom control settings to suit your preference, allowing you to drive with a virtual analog stick, or a more streamlined two-button option for fast in-game maneuvering.

GTA Chinatown Wars comes with enhanced graphics, lighting and explosion effects maximize the 480 X 320 high-resolution touch screen.

GTA Chinatown Wars has been specifically redesigned by Rockstar Leeds, the world’s premiere handheldstudio, to deliver even more critically acclaimed, innovative GTA gaming for the iPhone™ and iPod®touch.

Comparing the game price of GTA Chinatown Wars on the iPhone to that of the DSi is quite frankly amazing, and just re-iterates that the iPhone is a great gaming platform. Gone are the days where I would trawl through the supermarket at the weekend, or a computer games shop finding the game I want the most they don’t have. Now with the iPhone, the game I want the most is never out of stock, and it’s only 2 mins away from a purchase and download! :)

GTA Chinatown Wars is available on the iTunes App Store for £5.99 / $9.99
