iThoughts HD for the #iPad

If you either like or have used before mind mapping software to either make meeting notes, task lists or project plans you will know just how useful they can be to capture your thoughts quickly and easily.

Mind mapping has been around for a long time, but nkw it comes to the iPad with iThoughts HD.

iThoughts HD I must say is a great application for mind mapping on the iPad. Not only does it allow you to create, save and email your mind maps off the iPad to anywhere in the world but it also allows you to import existing mind maps you have in many existing different formats. The one I use mainly on the PC is from Xminds and iThoughts HD imports xMind documents just fine.

The only problem you have is to import the into the iPad you have to email them to yourself and then open the email on the iPad to open it in iThoughts HD and then it will save it into its local file store repository.

Plans are to support a plethora of other online file storage and sharing systems like box.net and dropbox, but this will come in a later version of the application.

All of the features you are accustomed to when creating mind maps like branches, sub branches, images are all present and will be imported from your existing mind maps if you choose to import. Unfortunately if you plan to take one mind map from another computer to the iPad, you can work on it and save it but to get it back to your other computer you have to do so via emailing it out of the iPad. Once box.net or dropbox support is added you will be able to synchronise between both.

For me still with the above limitations, iThoughts HD is still the best mind mapping application on the iPad to date!
