A night with my #Desire

I decided to sit down tonight and pick up my HTC Desire and start seeing what new apps there were on the Android Market. I downloaded a few apps, mostly free. Not that I’m adversed to paying for apps but I have spent in the region of several hundreds of pounds on the iTunes AppStore and don’t want to heavily invest in another platform at the moment.

I really like the HTC Desire, its a superb Android device, the best I have used so far, and I spent most of the night catching up on my twitter posts using the new Twitter app for Android along with Seesmic that I love to bits on Android. I then moved onto reading some blogs, using the Mashable app, Engadget app, TechCrunch app, downloading WC 2010 (world cup football app) so I can keep tabs on the World Cup matches. I also replied to a couple of company emails that had come in. I started to realize again how much I like the Desire and how useful it is. Unfortunately again I ran out of space so had to go in and delete a number of 8-10mb games to free up space.

The one thing I do hate (other than the lack of system app space) is that the Desire has a screen that as soon you touch it makes smudge marks all over it. In short, it hates the grease from your fingers (well mine), which means I am always compelled to go and clean it every few minutes as it bothers me. It tends to be a lot more worse than the iPhone in picking up smudge marks.

I am eagerly awaiting the release of Froyo to see how much more it enhances the overall experience. The Desire a great phone, the HTC Evo also looks like it’s a winner too, so Apple really do have a competitor in the smartphone business. Microsoft, Blackberry and Nokia are all seeing reductions in their sales, although most of it is coming from iPhone purchases and although Android market share is still small, Google are starting to pick up a larger share month on month.
